October Update

Hi Everybody,

A reminder that this years bonfire will take place on Saturday 5th November. Ian intends to light the fire at 2pm and  any plot holders with waste wood for burning are asked to take those items to Plot 23B, where the bonfire will be sited.

The inside of the hedge bordering Laburnum Road needs cutting back and the committee are looking for volunteers to help with this task on, also on Saturday 5th November. If you can help the work will be starting at 10.30am.

Don't forget plot inspections are also taking place in November.

We hope to see you at the bonfire

BLAHA July Newsletter

BLAHA Newsletter July 2022

Dear Plot Holders

Trust that you and your plot are coping with the weather at the moment; it's certainly getting a bit on the warm side! Further updates from the last letter are outlined below.

· Gates: There's still been no progress with the Planning Application although we have been allocated a Planning Officer now, a small step forward!

· Pollinator Strips: Mark (Plot 18b) has produced his list of Plants for Pollinators now on display at either end of the site; thanks Mark for your help in producing this.

· Open Day Social: This had originally been scheduled for 10th July, but has been postponed until September. It will take place immediately after the AGM (see below for date); more details to follow. Apologies to anyone who arrived on the day.

· Plot Inspection Feedback: As I mentioned when giving the results of the Annual Competition, the external judge felt the condition of the plots and the site had improved considerably over a year and in most cases the inspection confirmed that view so thanks for all your efforts. The next inspection is provisionally scheduled for 6th November, the first Sunday of the month.

•Thefts

Sadly potholders are still experiencing items being taken from their plots. Please keep your valuables safe and all continue to be vigilant.

Date of AGM: This will take place on Sunday, 11th September. Further details to follow in due course.

Enjoy the Mediterranean conditions.

Spring Newsletter

Spring has finally arrived and plots are starting to grow. Here's the latest Newsletter to bring you up to date.

· Gates: There's been no further progress with the Planning Application: we're part of the backlog, I'm afraid.

· Replacement Padlock: We are looking to replace the current temperamental padlock with a combination one. Details to follow in due course.

· Pollinator Strips: Following a suggestion from a plot holder, the committee is keen to support plot holders who wish to encourage pollinators. Many British native species can be used: forget me not, foxglove, lily of the valley, primroses, comfrey, for example. A comprehensive list of such plants has been produced by Mark (Plot 18b) and will be available in due course. Both he and Debbie (Plot 14b) are happy to provide further information if required.

· Plant Swap and Open Day Social: We are looking into the possibility of repeating the Plant Swap Day which was held last year and also organising on a separate date an Open Day Social. Further details to follow.

· Plot Inspection Reminder: The next plot inspection will take place on Sunday 12th June with the usual focus: Cultivation and Use, Section 4 of Schedule A of your Tenancy Agreement. Those of us whose tenancy is now longer than 12 months should be looking to have at least 3/4 of the plot under cultivation of crops; new tenants should be looking to have at least 1/4 of the plot under such cultivation. Inquiries about plot availability continue at pace so it's important that as plot holders we do use our plots effectively.

· Annual Competition Date: This may now be moved forward a little to mid/late June. Further details to follow.

· John Dean: John's funeral took place on 11th May and was well supported by our community. Many thanks to all those who were able to attend a very fitting service; he would have been very touched.

Enjoy the season.
